As the 2020 presidential election draws closer, former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly is speaking out against President Donald Trump, warning that if re-elected, Trump would rule like a dictator.
Kelly, who served as Trump’s Chief of Staff from July 2017 to January 2019, has been increasingly critical of the president in recent months. In a virtual interview with the Washington Post, Kelly expressed deep concerns about Trump’s leadership style and the potential consequences of another four years under his administration.
“The president has clearly made some unwise decisions and I think, generally speaking, his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic has been particularly poor,” Kelly said. “But the part that worries me the most is… that he would be a dictator.”
Kelly’s warning comes as Trump has faced criticism for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and his response to the nationwide protests against police brutality and racial injustice. Trump has been accused of stoking division and using authoritarian tactics to suppress dissent.
Kelly, a retired Marine Corps general, has been a vocal critic of Trump’s handling of the military and national security issues. He has also criticized Trump’s treatment of immigrants and his divisive rhetoric.
In the interview, Kelly urged voters to consider the consequences of re-electing Trump and to think about what kind of country they want to live in.
“I think we need to look harder at who we elect,” Kelly said. “I think we should look at people that are running for office and put them through the filter: What is their character like? What are their ethics?”
Kelly’s warning about Trump ruling like a dictator is a stark reminder of the importance of upholding democracy and the rule of law. As the election approaches, it is crucial for voters to consider the values and principles that are at stake and to make an informed decision about the future of our country.
